Generally, when we travel we are interested in trying to gain an understanding of the socio-political issues of the place we are visiting, meeting and engaging with local people as genuinely as possible, and learning about the history and cultural traditions. My husband and I went on an Intro Tour with Laura. It was a privilege to meet and spend time with these special people – and something we will never forget. ![]() Laura herself is a ‘force of nature’ who is working wonders to develop the potential of the children with amazing results that any educator in the world would be proud of. In addition to visiting two different townships, a highlight of the experience is a visit to Laura’s home where she runs a nursery school for local kids. Colin patiently offered astute and wonderfully articulate explanations to all the very many questions we asked. We were driven by Laura’s lovely husband Glen and guided by Laura’s close friend Colin, who provides a sensitive and insightful perspective on the history and political dynamics of the townships. It is most definitely not ‘poverty voyeurism’.įirstly, you should know that this is a completely safe introduction to how most South Africans live. More an ‘experience’ than a ‘tour’, this is a unique opportunity to meet some truly extraordinary people and gain hugely rewarding insights into the reality of today’s South Africa. ![]() This should be your ‘first choice’ experience in Cape Town – above all the other normal tourist attractions. If it were possible to award more than five stars, we would. ![]()
